The OGs of our IT team: Simon, Glenn, and Gerd are celebrating 5 years at Get Driven!

It’s hard to believe it’s already been five years since Simon, Glenn, and Gerd joined our IT team, but now is the perfect time to look back on their incredible journey and the impact they’ve had on Get Driven. They’re not only experts in their field but also the backbone of our team. Here’s their story!

Simon: The architect of our Backend

Simon began his journey at Get Driven during the middle of the pandemic—a time of uncertainty and distance. But that didn’t stop him from playing a key role in transforming our app. He started with app development but quickly shifted to backend work, where he still excels today.

“The coolest project I’ve worked on was setting up our new API,” Simon says. “We moved from a monolithic server to a microservice architecture running on AWS. It was a huge challenge, but it made us faster and more flexible.”

Simon’s superpower? His ability to embrace new technologies and look at features from different angles. He’s always searching for the best tool for the job, so we can keep innovating—now and in the future.

“What makes working at Get Driven different is the small team setup—everyone wears multiple hats. No two days are the same, and we’re always tackling new challenges,” he adds.

Gerd: The detail detective

Gerd joined Get Driven in April 2020, right at the start of the pandemic. His first day was a little unusual: he received his computer via contactless delivery from Gunther, and it would take months before meeting his team in person.

Gerd’s sharp eye for detail is what makes him such an asset to the team. “My superpower might be my attention to detail,” says Gerd. “I often spot logical issues others miss.”

He’s especially proud of the amount of automated tests he’s implemented in our backend. These tests help us develop with confidence and keep our code stable, even during big updates.

Glenn: The connector and flexibility expert

Glenn, the bridge between teams, joined Get Driven with a strong bond to Simon and Gerd from their time at Bazookas. His role evolved from developer to product manager, focusing more and more on sparking creativity and innovation in the team.

“My superpower is flexibility,” says Glenn. “I try to adapt to whatever the work requires. Some tasks are less fun, but I stay motivated because I know they improve Get Driven as a product.”

Glenn is most proud of what the team has built together. “From the technology to the app itself, it’s amazing. We’ve really laid the foundation for the future of Get Driven.”

A team that drives progress

For the past five years, the collaboration between Simon, Glenn, and Gerd has been the engine behind Get Driven’s technological growth. They didn’t just build the app’s technology; they also created a culture of open communication and collaboration.

“What makes Get Driven different from a typical IT job is the vibe,” says Glenn. “There’s always room for a good chat, a joke, and everyone is fully committed to taking the product to the next level.”

Thanks to the new tech and tools introduced by Simon, Glenn, and Gerd—like Flutter and AWS—we’ve been able to deliver a much better experience for our users.

What’s next

Looking ahead, Simon, Gerd, and Glenn all dream of pushing innovation even further. Simon hopes to add a new programming language to our tech stack, Gerd is excited to keep building the IT infrastructure, and Glenn hopes we keep improving and innovating.

We can’t wait to see what the next five years bring, but one thing is certain: with Simon, Glenn, and Gerd on board, we’ll keep dreaming big and striving to deliver the best experience for our users.
