Working as a Student Chauffeur: A Day Out with Anton

Imagine this: you’re driving through the city in a luxury car, on your way to an exclusive location, while your study books are spread out in front of you. Anton, 22 years old and a student of Communication and Marketing Support at the University of Ghent, is doing exactly that. He’s been working as a student chauffeur at Get Driven for a few months now, a job that not only aligns with his studies but also gives him a glimpse into the world of politicians, business people, and other influential figures. Here, Anton shares what it’s like to live a day as a student chauffeur.

A Day in the Life of a Student Chauffeur at Get Driven

Anton’s workday starts with the Get Driven app. “After an initial test, you’re added to our team if you pass,” Anton explains. His role is simple: he drives clients’ cars, all of whom can book a private chauffeur through the app. But this job offers more than just driving. It’s an opportunity to get a peek into the lives of people you wouldn’t normally meet, from CEOs to politicians. And that’s the magic: you’re not just driving a car, you’re driving other people’s lives.

The Benefits of Working as a Student Chauffeur

Anton is clearly excited about the perks of his job. “What I love most is that waiting time, for example, when a client is dining, is also paid. I can study or relax while I wait. It’s just a super efficient way to fill my time.” Compared to other student jobs, like taxi driving, where you’re only paid for the distance traveled, this is a huge advantage. You’re not just paid for the rides, but for the time you spend in the car as well.

Flexibility and Challenges

While the job offers a lot of flexibility, there are also moments that pose a challenge. “Sometimes I work late into the night, and that can disrupt my sleep schedule,” Anton smiles. But despite these small inconveniences, the flexibility and the experience he gains are well worth it. “I can schedule my hours partly through the app, so I can easily combine work with my studies and other commitments.”

Always Ready During Breaks

Then there are the breaks. As a student chauffeur, you’re always ‘on-call’. Anton explains: “I always stay with the car, especially with more expensive models. During my breaks, I work on school assignments or watch shows on Netflix. That way, I’m always ready to leave when needed.” It’s a practical way to combine work and study, while staying flexible.

What Does a Student Chauffeur Earn?

Regarding earnings, Anton says: “I make 12.57 euros per hour. It might not seem like a lot, but considering I’m sometimes just sitting and waiting, it’s actually pretty good.” It’s an easy way to earn money, and you have the freedom to schedule your work hours. It pays to be patient – literally!

Memorable Moments

Anton ends with a smile when talking about the memorable moments of his job. “The funny stories people share, especially after a few drinks, are really unforgettable. Sometimes you hear the most bizarre anecdotes, and that’s what makes this job so fun.” It’s those unexpected, humorous moments that make the student chauffeur experience unique.
